It helped to build to the ultimate climax of the story. There is a twist at the end that you may or may not figure out ahead of time but I enjoyed the back and forth and the way information was doled out sporadically and in snippets. This book was full of action, drama, suspense and then ultimately, betrayal. Without going into spoilers, let's just say that things go off the rails for Jake and he finds himself on the run, trying to find his kidnapped daughter. ![]() His in-laws have never liked Jake and they are unfortunately very wealthy and are doing everything in their power to try to get custody of Jake's daughter Piper. His wife is killed in a hit and run accident leaving Jake alone with his daughter Piper. The plot takes off from the very beginning and doesn't let up until the very end of the book. I thought this book went back to what made the Sam Callahan and David Adams series' so good. Then, I had my first bad experience with one of his latest books and I was a little worried about trying this one. I found this author a few books ago and really enjoyed his books. The closer he gets to the truth, the more he risks uncovering family betrayals so sinister they’re worth killing for.
